hew! Welcome to the long-overdue (but much-awaited, I'm sure) report on Junk Bonanza 2009! Talk about a meeting of the junking minds! You Texas girls take note (you know who you are!)...both Margo and the Red Shed Girls made the trek. I'll be expecting the rest of you to join us next year!!

Above is Margo holding her new iJunk t-shirt!! And below are the Red Shed Girls, who came up to scout out sites for their junking tour they will be leading up here next year.

Below is Val buying up what I call "dead baby doll parts." I can't say that I understand the fascination with them, but as the Texans say, "Bless their hearts."

aise your hand if you are going to the Vintage Flea Market this weekend in Duluth, MN. Raise them higher. If you don't have your hand raised, ask yourself, "Why don't I have my hand raised?" Then say, "Silly me! Of course, I'll be there!" 


Distance? Not a problem! Pack the RV and head out now! 
Money? Not a problem! It's dirt-cheap junkin' fun at this market!
Work? Not a problem! Bring your boss along!
Kids? Not a problem! They're small and fit into suitcases!
Anything else? Not a problem! A weekend in Duluth will ease your cares away!

t's official. I am the queen. That's right. No question about it! How do I know? Tricia said so!! Who's Tricia? She's the Zookeeper over at The Boutelle Family Zoo. She officially awarded me with the "Because I'm the Queen" award!! And I'm not one to argue about such things!!


Now, do you know this is the first-ever blog award for Junkologie? That's right! That makes it extra special!! We're at over 100 followers, too!! I'm feeling mighty loved!!

amily fun is a foundational part of junking! What better activity to spend with your friends, family, and loved ones? I love seeing kids, from ages 1 to 100, out enjoying the day and seeking out the junk treasure that inspires their creative minds! he first-ever Junk Potluck awarded two winners with the Junk Potluck crown. Okay, there wasn't really a crown, but these junking queens sure deserve one! The Kountry Junkers and Kathy@Sylvia's Vintage Daughter (photos above) impressed the distinguished panel of judges (You know...Sue Whitney and I! We're distinquished...aren't we?) with their creativity and cleverness!! The Kountry Junkers actually wheeled their hot entry all the way from their booth! Kathy lit up the table with the entry she brought all the way from Ohio!!

Aaaah, yes, there are also two more lucky winners to announce!! The online contest had five fabulous entries. I couldn't decide on my own, so I asked the JunkMarket contributors who had attended the blog party to vote on them. Two entries tied for first place. They are:

FIRST I WOULD USE A VINTAGE FRENCH TIN BABY BATH TUB FILLED WITH ICE (I KNOW IT'S GOING TO BE A HOT WEEKEND) & PLUNGE SPARKLING WATER IN IT; TO SERVE WITH OLD MASON JARS & A SPRIG OF MINT. THEN I WOULD MAKE SPINACH DIP & SERVE IT IN A FRENCH CLAY POT (CLEAN OF COURSE); CRACKERS SERVED ON A PIECE OF HOMESPUN PERCHED ON AN OLD POST OFFICE SCALE; FOLLOWED BY WATERCRESS & SEA SALT W/ CREAM CHEESE SANDWICHES ON A BED OF LETTUCE SERVED ON AN OLD GEAR WHEEL :)

Here is a "taste" of what the judges had to say about Gio's entry:

1. Love the juxtoposition between the "junk" serving pieces and the elegant "foodie" menu you have tossed together. Who says junkers don't potluck in style? Not me!! Very classy entry...Congrats!
2. My fave! It sounds so junky elegant (even though there aren't pictures, I could picture this entry, out in someone's backyard under a shade tree on a little farm table, a nice breeze and lots of sunshine - ok...back from my "daydream") I guess I'm trying to say - nice detail) - and also a great little menu for a hot summer day - served up in some interesting vintage containers!
3. My favorite entry!

WINNER #2: MIDGE@HAVIN' FUN WITH JUNK (AND LIFE IN GENERAL) for this entry:

If I were REALLY there, I would be staying at a hotel (I'm from Michigan) so I would make dishes well suited to crock pots, fridges, etc. I would crock a batch of my killer baked beans and serve them in a bowl that sets inside the bottom half of a globe atop a metal stand. I'd insert a sign that says "Out of this World Baked Beans". But, junkers do not live by beans alone, so I would whip up a decadent, chocolately trifle and serve it in a glass loaf pan (actually I'd do a few--it would go fast). I would set this in the removed keys area of a typewriter. In the roller I would place a paper that says "Yum. Yum." or something similar. Wish I was there.

NOTE: Midge took it a step further and actually made her ideas a reality!! Check out her JunkMarket Style post to see the Out of this World Baked Beans and typewriter projects!!

Here is a "taste" of what the judges said about Midge's entry:

1. I love a good sense of humor so the "Out of This Word Baked Beans" served in a globe brought a smile to this junkin' face. But really, you had me at the chocolate! Nice work...Cheers!
2. I do love her ideas for containers and the signs sound cute as well! The typewriter is a very unique idea - and a chocolate trifle...yummo!! A very fun potluck offering!
   
3. Love the idea of the half globe used as a bowl. I've often heard chocolate trifles are best served inside vintage typewriters so I'd be first to give it a taste. Very cool idea and bet it looks cute as ever!
